How the FAA has addressed COVID-19

The FAA has announced some changes related to Part 135 operators which include:

  • Enforcement Holiday: This is providing relief for Part 91 and Part 135 operators with expiring medical certificates until June 30, 2020.
  • An exemption extending current medical certificates for commercial Part 135 crewmembers that operate internationally until June 30, 2020.
  • Part 35 operators will have an exemption from certain recurrent training and qualifications.

This will be constantly be reevaluated as the condition(s) of the virus changes as we move forward. Operators should be prepared to adjust to any changes made to these policies as they may change, be extended or adjusted on short notice.

Also, keep in mind, just because the FAA is making some adjustments to traditional requirements, be sure to check with your insurance policy as they may not have the same relief plans. Be sure to contact your broker to ensure you are meeting your policy requirements as well as the FAA’s.
